Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) is a perennial plant species known for its erect, hairy stems and dense, lobed leaves. Also referred to as the marsh mallow, this plant grows up to 4 feet tall and boasts pink or white flowers that bloom from July to September. Marshmallow is well-suited for USDA hardiness zones 3 to 9. It thrives in moist, well-drained soil and full sun exposure. To propagate this herbaceous plant, Althaea officinalis seeds can be sown directly in the garden or started indoors. Known for its medicinal properties, Marshmallow is often used in herbal remedies for lung and digestive conditions.

Germinating Marshmallow Flower Seeds
To germinate Althaea officinalis, sow the seeds in a tray filled with well-draining seed compost. Cover them with a thin layer of soil and provide water regularly to keep the compost moist. Place the tray in a warm and sunny location, maintaining a temperature of around 70°F.
