Luffa Sponge Gourd (Luffa cylindrica), commonly known as Sponge Gourd or Loofah, is a vine plant that belongs to the Cucurbitaceae family. This tropical and subtropical plant has large leaves and produces vibrant yellow flowers. As the name suggests, the mature fruit is used as a natural sponge when dried. The fruits are cylindrical with a rough texture and can grow up to 12-18 inches long. Luffa cylindrica seeds can be sown in USDA hardiness zones 7-11. With proper care and support, this versatile plant can thrive and yield abundant sponges.

Germinating Luffa Sponge Gourd Flower Seeds
To germinate Luffa cylindrica, soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours. Plant the seeds in fertile soil, keeping them moist and warm (around 77°F) until they sprout in about a week or two.
