Common hops (Humulus lupulus), also known as hops or hop vine, is a perennial plant that belongs to the Cannabaceae family. It boasts robust climbing vines, which can reach heights of up to 25 feet. The plant’s appearance includes heart-shaped, deeply toothed leaves, and it produces cone-like flowers that contain resinous glands, used for brewing beer. While the female plants bear these aromatic cones, the male plants are primarily grown for ornamental purposes. Common hops can be grown in USDA hardiness zones 4 to 8, making it suitable for a wide range of climates. Humulus lupulus seeds are commonly used to propagate this popular plant.

Germinating Common Hops Flower Seeds
To germinate Humulus lupulus, plant the seeds 1 inch deep in well-draining soil mix. Keep the soil moist and maintain a temperature of 68-77°F. Germination should occur within 1-4 weeks.
