Acorus calamus, commonly known as Sweet Flag, is a perennial plant species. It features tall, sword-like leaves that can reach a height of around 5 feet. The leaves are green and aromatic, often found near wetlands or water bodies. Sweet Flag is also referred to as Calamus, Flagroot, or Sweet Root due to its rhizomes’ pleasant aroma and flavor. It is hardy in USDA zones 4 to 10, making it adaptable to a wide range of climates. Acorus calamus seeds are commonly used to propagate this plant, which thrives in moist soil and partial shade conditions.

Germinating Sweet Flag Flower Seeds

To germinate Acorus calamus, first, soak the seeds in water for 24 hours. Then, sow the seeds in moist soil, making sure they are not buried too deep. Place the pot in a warm location with indirect sunlight and keep the soil consistently moist.
