Arctium lappa Seeds (Burdock)

Burdock (Arctium lappa) is a perennial plant species belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is commonly known by names like Great Burdock, Gobo, or Edible Burdock. Burdock has broad, heart-shaped leaves with a fuzzy texture and can reach a height of up to 6 feet. Its flowers are small and purple, grouped together in spherical clusters. This plant is native to Europe and Asia but can be grown in USDA hardiness zones 3 to 9. It spreads through burrs that cling to animals and clothing, but can also be propagated using Arctium lappa seeds found in its mature flower heads.

Germinating Burdock Flower Seeds

To germinate Arctium lappa, soak the seeds in water for 24 hours, then plant them in moist soil at a depth of ¼ inch. Keep the soil consistently moist and maintain a temperature of 60-70°F until germination, which usually occurs within 14-21 days.
