Blue Vervain (Verbena hastata) is a wild, perennial plant belonging to the Verbena family. Also known as Swamp Verbena or American Blue Vervain, it can be found throughout North America in wetlands, meadows, and along streams. The plant grows erect and reaches a height of 3-6 feet, with a spread of 1-2 feet. Blue Vervain produces long spikes of tiny, deep blue or purple flowers that attract butterflies and bees. It can be cultivated from Verbena hastata seeds and thrives in USDA hardiness zones 3-8. This herbaceous plant is often used in natural remedies for its potential medicinal properties.

Germinating Blue Vervain Flower Seeds

To germinate Verbena hastata, sow the seeds in a well-draining soil mix, keeping them lightly moist. Provide the seeds with bright indirect light and maintain a temperature around 70°F (21°C). Germination should occur within 2-3 weeks.
