German Garlic (Allium senescens), also known as nail plant or stone leek, is a perennial herbaceous plant native to central and eastern Europe. It features narrow, grass-like leaves that grow up to 12 inches long and produce clustered pink or mauve flowers on leafless stems during mid-summer. This low-growing plant reaches a maximum height of around 12-15 inches. German Garlic is hardy in USDA zones 4-8. To propagate this species, individuals can obtain Allium senescens seeds and sow them in well-draining soil. It prefers full sun or partial shade and thrives in rockeries, alpine gardens, and borders.
